Independent University Of Bangladesh (IUB)

Minimum requirement to get admitted to this university is 12-year academic education. The applicant should have at least one 1st division in his SSC. or HSC. An English medium student should have 6 O'Levels and 2 A' Levels. G.P.A. should be at least 2 in O'Level. But there are only 15 percent English medium students in IUB.

Usually two kinds of admission test are taken here-written and viva. Written test is taken on English, Mathematics and General knowledge. But this is only to assess the basic knowledge of the applicant. The viva is the most important.

Students are studying in 4 faculties in IUB.School of Business offers the B.B.A. course. There are 5 field concentrations or Majors in this course- Marketing,Finance ,Accounting, Economics and General Management.One should choose 1 or 2 Majors out of these 5.


School of Communication gives B.Sc (Honours) in Computer Science,Business Informatics and Development Communication.

School of Environmental Science also offers B.Sc (Honours) course.Majors in this faculty are- Environmental Management,Population Environmental Protection and Resource Management.

School of Liberal Arts and Science doesn't have any degree course but this faculty have some compulsory general education classes. Students must take two courses in English, three in Math or Numerology, one in Computer Science, one in Social Science, two in National Culture and two courses in any foreign language other than English. Besides, they also get an assignment after completing their second year. This one month assignment has 6 credits and they have to work in a village under the guidance of a teacher within this period. A student should have minimum 39 credits in Liberal Arts Program. Besides, they should have 66 credits in their selected Majors (66 courses),15 credits in their Minors (if any) and 33 credits in their Basic/Foundation courses. Including all, Bachelor degree is given on 123 to 128 credits. The University also gives a lot of importance to regular attendance in classes. If one doesn't have 85% attendance in a course ,he or she will miss his or her grade in that course.

Tuition fee in each credit in every course is taka 3300. Admission fee (once) is taka 15.000. Library and Lab fee is taka 5,000. Taka 4,80,000 is required to complete a 4-year degree course.

This university gives financial help to the studebts.10% students study here in this way. And if one gets place in the Merit List in SSC. or HSC., he or she doesn't have to pay tuition fees.
Teachers are also very qualified here. One must have at least one foreign degree to be a teacher in IUB.

In 1997, IUB releases its 1st Batch. IUB graduates have got admitted in higher degree courses in the renowned universities in the country and abroad. They also have a good record in the job market.
